The Women's Cooperative was founded in April of 1979 by a group of women who span a wide range of ages and experiences. In the hands of the cooperative, in 1980 the Women's bookstore took form and is now home to a multitude of books and magazines that reflect women's thoughts, originating from all reaches of the world. Serving as a public archive since 1984 is the cooperative's Center of Documentation; a wealth of feminist publications and related materials that date back to 1970. As well, the Cooperative is a part of the Italian Women's Information Lilith Network and of the Rete delle donne in Toscana.
